PS102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Placenta, Umbilical Cord, Fetus
Document Summary
Ps102 lecture 2: a) manipulation (using iindependent variable, b) controlling variables, i) use control condition, ii) use random assessment, c) measuring the outcome (dependant variable) Researchers use 2 different research designs to allow them to access change within individuals: cross sectional design: research approach that compares groups of different aged people to one another. Problem- assumes that any changes found in a study are the result of age. Cohort: any group of people born at about the same time: longitudinal design: follows same people over a long period of time problem- requires a lot of time and money. Cohort-sequential design: comprises 2 or more longitudinal studies, each covering the same spans of time but conducted with different age groups. Development is a mixture of genes and the environment. Epigenetic: change in a gene expression that are independent of dna sequence of a gene. Qualitative- we develop at different rates and paces depending on our own differences.
