Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans TCPS 2
-first published in 1998, promotes ethical treatment of humans in research
-provides guidelines that researchers in Canada must follow when conducting research with
human participants
TCPS 2 is a joint policy of Canada's Three Research Agencies:
1) Canadian Institutes of Health Research CIHR
2) Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC)
3) Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)
Guiding principles:
-the foundation of the policy is the value of respect for human dignity
-3 core principles: respect for persons, concern for welfare, justice
