PS295 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Type I And Type Ii Errors, Statistical Inference, Descriptive Statistics
Document Summary
Ps295 / july 23, 2018: experimental design. Interpreting experimental data with more than 2 factors: analyzing statistical data. Marginal averages are calculated the same way (add up cell means and / by the number of means) When looking at line graphs, take the average of the 3 or more points. Harder to visualize averages in bar graphs so take the average of the actual numbers of each bar. Provide more information regarding how the variables interact to affect behaviour (the dv) When a between subjects design is used, the number of participants needed increases dramatically. Difficult to draw meaningful interpretations from the data when the number of ivs increases beyond 3. When a main effect of an iv is found, a researcher can conclude that the iv caused changes in the dv. When a main effect of an sv is found, a researcher can conclude that the groups differed on the dv.
