Any kind of human behaviour and social interaction. Macro level analysis: military, race relations, mnc"s. Micro level analysis: how people interact on street corners, how people decorate their homes, family violence. Ex micro: ask individuals how they feel, how it affected them, etc. Sociological research (ex not raising tuition more than 3% each year) Need to move beyond common sense and guessing. Highly descriptive analysis, but not always viewed as objective by more conventional researchers. Rich description often provides significant theoretical insight. Interviewer and interviewee involved in a conversation (ex dementia) Researcher"s personal characteristics are very important in fieldwork. Distinctive feminist methodology: a conversation among equals. Analyze data already collected by others (ex stats can) Excellent source of information, but one can not be sure of how systematically the original data were gathered. Examine film, books, newspapers, diaries, records, police reports, household accounts, immigration files, etc. Usually best to utilize sources or types of sources.
