Document Summary
Weber -> stratification theory -> ses (socio-economic status) Class and ses are not the same, their foundational assumptions about whats going on in the world are different from one another. Wealth: economic situation, private property like land, cars (things that you own) they interpret about you (weber) another class. Marx: relationships to the means of production. Prestige: status situation; the respect others give you on the basis of what. Power: parties; (cid:494)groups of people who act in concert to achieve their goals(cid:495) production you(cid:495)re in one class and if you manipulate it to produce it you(cid:495)re in. To marx there(cid:495)s only two classes: capitalist (cid:523)bourgeoisie(cid:524) and workers (proletariat), (later introduced petty-bourgeoisie) Ownerships in the hands of production growing makes fewer people in that class. There are laws to protect private property but not holding common property. There are class cultures that we associate with each class. Classes came from the nobility and peasants.
