Document Summary

Closed questions: preferable when doing a questionnaire; minimizes. Open questions: not ideal for questionnaires, helpful if doing interview ambiguity and help you find small differences between answers, saves time, saves money - quantitative yourself. Difficult to convert to answers that correspond to numerical data . Advantages for open questions: more genuine, can lead to fixed choice. Disadvantages for open: time consuming to record answers, have to code. Coding is useful because it breaks down categories and creates a verbal answer. The fewer number of answers the better. Closed questions advantages: easy to process answer, easy to standardize cannot overlap answers. You can compare very easy once you standardize. Disadvantages: loss of spontaneity and authenticity because relevant answers excluded from choices provided, forced to put (cid:498)other(cid:499), categories. Don"t want to lose your rapport, large number of closed questions can reduce rapport in interviews but may be appreciated after several open questions.
