There is often a disconnect between the creators of culture, and the performers of this culture. Women are often the performers, and not often to be considered to be the ones creating the culture. If we had to make a list of female bands (where they play instruments), directors, producers, or other forms of creating culture, it would be very hard to find many. There are often discrepancies between the original portrayal of something, and the mass media representation. Often what we see has been heavily edited and recreated so the original message is often lost. In the case of riot grrrl, there were many political ideas behind their culture creations (zines, music, using the body as a text) Some of these include women"s rights, poverty, abortion, equality, and getting these types of message across. Unfortunately, it was more focused on just the music when portrayed in the mainstream media. Sounds like it could be a growl, an attack noise.
