Document Summary

Summary of comparison of therapeutic alternatives/justification of intervention in patient: When non-pharmacological options are available and able to help the patient, always recommend them. In our patient"s case, the biggest concern is her sedentary lifestyle and if we can safely get her physically active with tolerated weight bearing or impact based exercises, we should try to encourage it. In terms of pharmacological options, all of the medications are efficacious but when observing our patient"s test results, it is unnecessary to choose any calcium supplementation as her levels are within normal limits. To make it very clear, we need to increase our patient"s vitamin d levels, increase her t-score and reduce her risk of fractures (especially with regards to vertebral bones), and to heal any fractures, if any. The patient has reported that she doesn"t like taking a lot of pill supplements, so anything that requires daily use like low dose (1000iu) vitamin d3, is probably out of the question.
