Document Summary

Glucose is rapidly released from glycogen by glycogen phosphorylase (breaks alpha 1,4 linkages) and glycogen debranching enzyme ( converts alpha 1,6 to alpha 1,4) Metabolic breakdown controlled by glycogen phosphorylase, which is turned on by glucagon, low atp/high amp, ca2+& epinephrine. Extra level of control in liver through allosteric inactivation of phosphorylase a by glucose its controlled by allosterics and dephosphorylation. Under aerobic conditions, the pyruvate made from glycolysis undergoes the citric acid cycle, also known as the krebs cycle. Converts pyruvate acetyl coa and reduces nad+ and fad electron carriers that go on to electron transport chain. The cycle displays anapleroticity it is a pathway that is both anabolic & catabolic. Acetyl co-a reacts at thiol linked acetyl group. Flavin adenine dinucleotide (fad) two business ends at nitrogenous aromatic ring. Involved in synthesis of acetyl-coa and the citric acid cycle via pyruvate dehydrogenase and -ketoglutarate dehydrogenase.
