Process of Membrane Fusion
- Proteins participate in tethering two membranes
- Known as “SNAREs”
o Integral membrane proteins
o 2 SNAREs from plasma membrane + 1 SNARE
from vesicle form complex (long-coiled
structure)
o Mutual contact is required to make sure that
correct membranes fuse
o Spontaneous process: multiple van der waals
contacts
o It also requires membrane curvature changes
Signal Transduction: General
- Communicate signal from outside to inside
- It requires receptor to receive signal and ligand to
provide it
- Ligand interacts with receptors to create internal
response
