Social crime prevention (society as a frame of reference) Factors influencing crime: families, schools and education, housing and employment, peers, social crime prevention in perspective. Personal and behavioural factors (1) hyperactive behavior, impulsiveness, antisocial behavior. Absence of parental supervision (2) abuse and neglect, offending my parents and siblings. Poor housing and unstable living conditions (3) Lack of training and employment (5: targets (questions that social crime prevention initiatives need to address) Site of intervention individual level housing, the school, the family, employment. Point of intervention when in one"s life course should one intervene (preschool, elementary school, young adulthood?) This blurring relationship comes with unintended consequences---1. social services came to be judged much more narrowly in terms of crime and antisocial behavior, 2. there"s a neglect of social services and policy, 3. The privileging of policies dealing with crime, and marginalization of other public issues (less concern with poor housing).
