A way to distinguish difference between people. Weather we recognize it or not, we are always classifying people. How do you define race? (could be born somewhere, grew up somewhere else, speak a. Race" in terms of human race(species), or cultural race(eg hispanic, black, asian, etc) certain language, etc) There is uniqueness while there is also a sense of what we share. Creates a space for different people to come together and share a cultural identity. Some people, like the first nations, don"t want to be apart of this multiculturalism we try to be apart of, they have been through so much and want to preserve their culture, and want to be different. Using race gives us an excuse to couch our lack of understanding (the thinking of well i don"t need to know about them because i don"t belong to that group) We as people will always find a way to find difference between ourselves.
