Document Summary

Save the last dance : this week, upon viewing and discussing the film save the last dance, i learned to view race as more than just the colour of one"s skin, as it is most commonly mistaken as. In truth, race can include a wide makeup of different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs, languages, etc. Although we can classify a person as asian or latin, they could be born in one place, but grew up in another. Or they could have the physical features of an asian person, but only speak english. This proposes race as more of a social construct rather than biological fact, since it heads the question, "what exactly is race?" I also learned that we, as people, are constantly finding ways to classify people into individual categories in order to find similarities or differences compared to ourselves, whether we continuously notice or not.
