Died by suicide at the age of 30 a result of patriarchy. The belief that her reputation as a tortured artist is what made her famous. Her poetry and the quality of her writing is insignificant and not on par with other poets like adrienne rich. Plath uses her personal life in her writing and puts herself forward as the subject of the poem. Modern poetry: two views of plath"s life and career linda wagner-martin and anne. The former sees plath as a feminist before feminism movements, and the latter sees plath as a middle-class young woman struggling to come to terms with the middle-class society that she constantly found herself in. Linda wagner-martin says: fighting the female stereotypes of service and motherhood by taking herself seriously as a writer. It is also valuable for its ability to reach today"s reader, because of its concern with the real problems of our culture.
