Response within a coupled social-ecological system can be considered a negative feedback. We can only control our own response we don"t know with certainty what other components of the social-ecological system will do. Response is and must be multi-scalar; from the personal to the global. Can always do something later, let"s just wait and see. No real do nothing" because you will end up dealing with it one way or the other. Still have to cope with the effects (i. e. adapt business plan, provide relief donations for flooded nations) Any kind of adjustment in response to actual or expected climate change p117 see what is occurring/going to occur, and the kind of changes you have to make to lessen the impact. Reactive adaptation: adaptation which occurs as part of regular societal functioning eg: change a crop because of climatic variability; build on higher land because of flooding adjusting to what is currently occuring.
