Document Summary

The suburban fix: defining the spatial fix, tracking the corporate suburb. Comments on my city in song assignment. Residential area on the outskirts of a city. Quiet less traffic, not much to do, only homes. Wealthier area middle class, white picket fence. Why live there: more space for your money, cleaner air, visually appealing green/ park space, manicured landscape, safer fewer people, families of a certain class and ethno racial background. Birth rates 4 children at times. Inequality in the housing market racial, etc. There was a growing interest in home ownership. Strong demographic shift at this time; higher birthrates, etc. We can look at the suburb as a stimulus package. There are also political, social, and economic conflicts. There are two dimensions to the fix: expansion for economic growth, deepening investment. We can talk about the spatial fix as a way of fixing the capital. Keep the capital from relocating (at least for a while).
