Reminds us that even though the usa is big, it was filled up with colonies from other countries such as spain, as well as other native nations. The colonies were settled by different religious, economic and social groups. People often fled from prosecutions in europe (primarily england); mainly refugees. The people who came over into the colonies left their countries of origin when their interests were being questions for instance, they didn"t like the government. Of the southern colonies were about 30% of the total pop. N. & s. carolina, georgia: 119,000 (white); 94,000 (black) South carolina: 36,000 (white); 57,000 (black: the blacks outnumbered the whites in this state. In the northern colonies, the economy and society invested less in slavery.
