Colonial fur trade: samuel de champlain (governor of new france, huron allied with france at quebec. Iroquois allied with english at new york: traded exclusively with the french. Even though every militia was supposed to have a gun, only a handful actually had them. 1792: every man eligible was allowed to purchase a gun when serving in the militia. Men had to report annually to have the guns inspected. Required to have details of guns be registered in data base. Gun ownership in the usa was far from being universal. Meant to limit gun sales to abs, european settlers (cid:449)ere(cid:374)"t e(cid:448)e(cid:374) taki(cid:374)g ad(cid:448)a(cid:374)tage of gu(cid:374) o(cid:449)(cid:374)ership. Dug wrote about the heritage about guns which was not universal, and diminished in 1800s.
