Historic england: the king"s courts began and grew into three types of courts, which were very expensive to take cases to, and were only in london. Exchequer of pleas: the assizes were the king"s justices, who took the king"s law out into his kingdom. This meant that not every case which disturbed the king"s peace" would be taken to london; the assizes would travel six circuits around england, and hold courts to sign punishments for violent crimes. If somebody needed to be judged in front of the court, outside of london, they would be held in gaol until the justice (assize) came into town. Historical canada: based on england"s system, which was brought over in the 1700s, 1791: upper canada became an english colony, the king"s court bench is the next level to the system pre-1867.
