Manning marable presents evidence that should demote malcolm x from his standing. He was a foster child, did drugs and crimes and at 21 went to prison for burglary and firearm charges. Black muslims from the whites and other negroes : because of his notoriety, elijah got jealous and hounded him malcolm split from the noi in march 1964. Sex was central to the rupture between malcolm and elijah because elijah loathed hypocrisy. Compared to the blacks that were rallying and protesting, malcolm x just offered words. Marable credits malcolm x and his renouncement of noi anti-white theology. In the ballot or the bullet (1964), malcolm x advocates fighting for racial, economic, and social justice on all fronts, and he does not want religion to stand in the way of justice. X calls for keeping religion private: it should be between the person and his or her god.
