Hlst 2030 teams l9 11. 20. 17. Use of teams in healthcare no longer an option: teams and teamwork are a necessity. Work is too complex to be dependent on single individual. Teams are multidisciplinary, relying on people with multiple skill sets. Effective patient care and management are dependent upon teams. Teams are the building blocks of organizational life and the performance of a single employee is often determined by how well the team performs. Teams are groups, but not all groups are teams: Defined purpose directly related to goals of the organization. Groups (that are not teams) may possess some characteristics of teams but lack one or more key elements. Formal groups or teams are formally recognized, organizational-based, social systems: Organizationally based teams generally have one or more task to perform (i. e. , they have a specific purpose) Operate within an organizational context and interact with larger organization or organizational subunits.
