Doctors, hospital and other health care providers who voluntarily come together to deliver and coordinate high quality care to the patients they serve. Aim to achieve better coordinated and integrated care by aligning incentives among providers. Allows providers who deliver the care to retain the savings to reinvest in more care ( cost per client is less than average) Network of providers (linkage focused and network integration) Access to shared health or medical records (emr) There is less than 10 years of data available to evaluate aco e=performance. Evidence concerning aco performance is mixed as is the quality of the studies. Goal of the aco is to reduce utilization of services however the use of preventative and primary care may increase so that the hospital services are not used. Many studies only look at utilizing speci c services not overall health system use.
