Schoolyard murders: its boys killing other kids not girls. How male violence is socially and culturally produced as a normal part of gender-identity socialization the sexualization of violence how self-portrayals of violence are tied to sexual desirability. Hyper-masculinity as a public health problem: violence against men and women, bullying, shooting and gun violence, self-esteem issues, homophobia. Real strength is not power, violence or destruction but: building and creating things through compassion, peace-making and empathy. Part one- understanding violent masculinity looking at media image of masculinity has changed from the 60"s to current shows that the image of the body has changed (star wars characters, batman, superman, wrestlers) It is not video games or movies though these things play a role. It"s the overall mass media culture that makes it seem that violence is a normal and natural part of a man"s life.
