Common law or case law is a system of cases from the past that act as precedents. Two branches of law: statute law, common law. Appointed and usually remain on the bench until they decide to retire. The decisions could be prone to bias and that"s (cid:449)h(cid:455) there is a lot of pressure to make sure the bench is as diverse as possible to reflect all aspects of society. Statute law trumps common law because elected officials reflect what we want and how we want the law to be applied.
