Hermes is the son of zeus and maia: his hymn is broken down into 3 parts. He is rst born in a cave: he leaves the cave, and right away spots a turtle. The story then shifts to apollo searching for his cows: he nds out hermes took them, but can"t gure out where they are because of the trick. Hermes used: he goes to hermes to investigate, and hermes lies and makes apollo laugh, and they decide to go to zeus. At zeus: they tell zeus what happened and zeus decides what should be done. Hermes takes his lyre out and starts playing it, and apollo wants the lyre: hermes gives the lyre to apollo, in exchange for a whip, making hermes the master and god of cattle now. This poem is older than the works and days, and hesiod"s theogony. The poem begins with inspiration coming from the muses, in the form of a song.
