Book 19: 1-51: odysseus and telemachos remove the weapons so the suitors cannot access them, 53-95: virtual recognition scene. Melanthos and melanthios: 96-316: lengthy interview between the beggar (odysseus) and the queen (penelope). He tries to reassure her that her husband will return, this is ironic because it is him. Penelope remains skeptical of odysseus" return throughout the book: 317-393: penelope orders to bathe the beggar. Odysseus in turn asks for an old maid to bathe him. Odysseus does not want to reveal his identity and wants to still test which of the serving maids were sleeping with the suitors and who should be punished: flash back scene. Telemachos by his side: athena has been supporting both odysseus and telemachos throughout the book. 283: odysseus has some special connection to the gods and goddesses that. 91-95: penelope rebukes her maid who tries to make odysseus go away. Compare this to the way how other maids and suitors treat odysseus.
