The fictional texts in this course often gives us very clear theoretical perspectives and analysis. Three primary aims of science: to explain nature, to predict nature, to control nature. Speculative fiction: a place where assumptions could be tested, seeks to tell the story otherwise. Cognitive estrangement: where familiar ideas are made to seem to us strange in some way so much so that we often do not recognize it right away. Sir thomas more: texts that speculated about an ideal society, the term utopia came into existence in 1516 after his book called utopia, utopia translates to: no place or nowhere, a time of huge change in society.
