An inter-imperial rivalry btwn usa and soviet union. 2 super-powers competed with each other in economics, sciences, politics, culture and military affairs. The usa was the dominant power ( soviet union usually on the defense) After ww2 the allies made a deal to split up the world and occupy the countries. Escalation ( both sides begin to build up their military an nuclear weapons in a way unseen by the world previously. More going into this than went into the prep for ww2. many pple worried bc one wrong move and there cld be a nulcear war that cld destroy the word ( #missilecrisisof62) Both sides reduce their # of weapons to have good relations again, ( after missile crisis--thought there would be a nulcear war-missiles aimed at borders--diplomatic negotiations where both sides agreed to back down). They do not go to war directly against each other buuut they support opposite sides in wars around the world.
