Document Summary
Loss of body sensation: dea erented patients (have no sensory feedback or moving limb) can sometimes perform simple motor tasks. The burning sensation becomes an impulse in the sensory neurons: pain and proprioception are separate pathways. Re exes to the lower body are harder because you not only have to withdrawal, you also have to focus on stabilization so you don"t fall. Re exes are: involuntary: you can"t not withdraw, they are stereotyped: the same thing happens every time with the same stimulus, they are very fast, re exes are modi able in terms of the amplitude. This means that the brain can change how hardcore the re ex reaction is. If you are rock climbing and a pigeon lands on you, you probably won"t even move so that you don"t fall. If you are scared at night and walking and a pigeon lands on you out of no where, you will probably freak out and be very scared.
