Document Summary

Topic 3: sensory motor systems 1: control of muscle. Motor units: 1 motor neuron + multiple muscle fibers. Motor neuron pools: multiple motor units which innervate 1 type muscle. Extrafusal muscle fibers: motor neurons. Intrafusal muscle fibers: motor neurons. Motor neurons: in the ventral horn of the spinal cord, connects to the muscle fibers, inputs from the diverse sources. Spinal interneurons: dorsal horn & intermediate horn. Intermediate horn : between doral & ventral horns: motor command + sensory inputs. 3 motor neurons in the ventral horn: one motor neuron many muscle fibers, each motor neuron controls. Different set of the muscle fibers within the same muscle group. Each axon splits up at terminal & synapse multiple muscle fibers. Motor unit: single motor neuron + extrafusal muscle fibers that a motor neuron innervates. 3 (extrafusal) muscle fibers ~ 1000 (extrafusal) muscle fibers. Some of them depend on the size of the muscle group.
