Generally do not do screening for height, mental and athletic ability, strength; the idea of designer babies (gattaca) Identify fetal risk of chromosomal or genetic conditions which may affect the health of fetus or baby. Provide clear concise information for parents on any risks identified. Provide options for parents early in pregnancy when termination may be considered. Provide parents with information about the condition prior to birth so that special care can be planned. Genetic disorders such as tay-sachs or cystic fibrosis (most common among european ancestry) Neural tube defects (ntds) such as spina bifida: neural tube doesn"t form, remains open, may cause lack of brain development; can be seen prenatally through underdevelopment of skull.
