NATS 1840 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Sawmill, Natural Resource Management
Document Summary
Nats 1840 lecture 10 specialization of production: technology maximizes resource. Land scarcity, growing global trade, rapidly growing manufacturing industries. Medicine was manufactured to help people live longer, population increased. The need for housing, land, food also is in higher demand. The global train is in full swing, things are being moved all across the world, demand for products increases. Large variety of resources: food (sugar, fish), non-food animal products (e. g. furs), minerals (e. g. gold and silver), plant materials (trees) All of which was extracted for benefit of the country, things were also sent across the world to other countries. Minimal processing (e. g. drying and salting fish), greater processing - as basis for manufacturing (e. g. iron for tools) the value of fish is low, manufacturing these tools takes a lot of work and requires a lot of skill. Raw materials for manufacturing, production levels increased, dependence on natural resources, economic growth and competitiveness.
