Blending predicts that the variaion would eventually disappear over many generaion due to diluion. Heritable variaions are transmited from parents to ofspring: iniially: blending of traits occurs during gametes combined during ferilizaion. Creaing mixture of geneic material contributed by each parent: but: blending predicts that the variaions will eventually disappear due to diluion. Gregor mendel contradicted the blending predicion: thinks that genes are passed on generaion ater generaion. Gene locus: locaion of a paricular gene on a chromosome. Allele: gene located on a speciic site of a speciic chromosome. Alleles may have diferences in the sequence of only one or few dna base pairs: a small diference leads to producion of a diferent protein. Same allele of a gene from each parent are homozygous: 2 same alleles. Those with diferent allele"s of a gene are heterozygous. When the efect of an allele are detected in the heterozygous condiion, allele is dominant.
