Document Summary

Learning: a relatively permanent change in an employee"s knowledge or skill that results from experience. The more they learn, the more they bring to the table when they come to work. Decision making: the process of generating and choosing from a set of alternatives to solve a problem. The more knowledge and skills and employees possess, the more likely they are to make accurate and sound decisions. It takes most employees anywhere from 3 months to 1 year to perform at a satisfactory level. To develop high level of expertise it takes significantly longer. Why do some employees learn to make decisions better than others. Expertise: the knowledge and skills that distinguish experts from novices. The difference between experts and novices is almost always a function of learning as opposed to the more popular view that intelligence or other innate differences make the difference. The way to tell when someone has learned is through their behaviours.
