Oral mucosa in mouth: has stratified (multiple layers), squamous (flat), non-keratinized epithelium and lamina propia. Salivary glands: produce and secrete saliva (which contains water, ions, enzymes, metabolites and glycoproteins. Paired ducts open into the oral vestibule near the 2nd maxillary molar. Paired ducts open into floor of oral cavity, lateral to lingual frenulum.
