Lecture: how to do proper research for your papar. Periodical index/database for articles in journals or other periodicals: Review the literature published on particular topic. Provide examples of the type of resources available on a given topic. Not an abstract or simple summary of an article. Descriptive and critical (identify strengths and weaknesses) Identify the author"s point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority. Illustrate the scope and equality of the article. Allow the reader to see if a particular source was consulted. Not just summarizing abstract, there are lots of things you"re looking for. Develop your question, instead of it being broad and overreaching, narrow the focus to make the essay more interesting. Research guide -> academic writing guide -> annotated bibliography. Has links with reputable sources that can help you with the annotated bibliography. Use name of journal, not article when searching on main library homepage under library resources.
