Document Summary
Last week: different types of info stored in long-term memory (ltm) Procedural memory: how to do things, skills, unconsciously without putting any effort, automatic processing. Declarative memory: memory for facts, info, more effortful: episodic memory, semantic memory. Today: the inability to recall info from ltm. Perhaps it went to short-term memory (stm) but got displaced and didn"t move onto the final, permanent ltm: 2) maybe you didn"t use elaborative rehearsal to get it into ltm. Using an inappropriate search strategy- searching for a woman"s name doesn"t help if you were encoding what she was wearing. Retrieval cue having to do with what she was wearing. Now it matches and you know who she is: sometimes recreating the context helps to remember things, e. g. cant find your pen, recreating context helps. Recall (drunk: recall is best when there is a match between states. Mood-congruent memory: tendency to recall experiences that are consistent with your mood (good or bad)
