Document Summary
Goal directed behaviour: usually when have a goal in mind then we direct our actions towards something that will satisfy the goal. Freud: believed we have life and death instincts that motivate us. Instinct theories: innate tendency to behave in a xed way to certain stimuli, tried to explain human behaviour through instincts (which didn"t do much but put labels on things) Drive reduction theory: replaced the instinct theories, many different theories. Whenever there is any kind biological or physiological need it creates a tension that feels uncomfortable in the individual: ex hunger creates makes person uncomfortable. Gives person the drive to satisfy the paritcular need (food) After satis ed then the drive goes down ( We are motivated to reduce our drive: this is positively reinforced. Friday, february 3, 2017: physiological needs/ de ciencies create internal tension (ie drive or arousal) and we are motivated to reduce that drive by satisfying that need.
