September 21 2017: the central nervous system, the cortex. 3 agenda: occipital, temporal, parietal, frontal lobes, left and right hemisphere specialization, the peripheral nervous system, practice questions, neurons in action, neurotransmitters. Parasympathetic division [conserves resources : outer layer of cerebrum, what makes us distinctively human, 4 lobes: cortex occipital [around the back of the brain, primary visual cortex located in the occipital. Parietal [top of head, in between the frontal & parietal lobes & on top of temporal lobe] Temporal [close to the ear: auditory input - helps you hear. The area which helps you move and controls your actions. Right brain/ left brain (see application section for critical appraisal) The location of two centers for language processing in the brain: Broca"s area, which is involved in speech production; and. Wernicke"s area, which is involved in language comprehension left/right functions: Acetylcholine- neurotransmitter involved in the activation of motor neurons. Serotonin - involves in the regulation of eating/ sleeping.
