Conflict: exists when 2 incompatible and as goals exist simultaneously but both can"t be satisfied. Cognitive dissonance(mismatch between attitude and behaviour and creates anxiety): Change attitude so its matches our behaviour. Valence: whether the emotion is positive or negative. Stimulus then you experience conscious feeling then psychological reaction. Stimulus then you experience psychological arousal or reaction then you express the feeling. Argued that different pattern of psychological reaction for each different emotions. Criticism: if what he is saying true then human beings must be good at tuning in and conscious of changes in the body. Argues that you have a stimulus which affects particular part of the brain(thalamus) autonomic arousal and emotions happen simultaneously. Schachter"s two factor theory: 2 things are involved: cognition. You feel psychological arousal, you are going to look at the situation to put a label on that emotion (cognitive appraisal)
