Stage 3 has delta waves that occur <50%, stage 4 delta waves occur >50% of the time. Wave sleep (sws: stage 5: rem sleep: rapid eye movement, rapid eye movements is a characteristic of this sleep. Experimenters woke up subjects during this stage and asked what did you experience before i woke you up? - they were dreaming. In rem the dreams are vivid and animated, emotional, and weird. Motor activity is practically eliminated, muscles are paralyzed.
