Context dependent; exposing yourself to a doctor is different from exposing yourself during a bank meeting. Aggression in a sports event is not considered abnormal behavior. Any behavior that occurs infrequently is abnormal. Not all infrequent behaviors are judged as being abnormal . The normal distribution: on an iq scale, developmental delay is on one end of the spectrum, but genius is on the other. Usually we consider it exceptional, even though it"s statistically abnormal. What"s considered normal in certain cultures varies. What"s considered to be a deviation in society becomes the norm; homosexuality, perspectives and social norms change. Not all socially deviant behaviors should be considered abnormal. Value judgement is made to determine whether something is maladaptive or not. Whether someone experiences psychological distress or not. Some people with a disorder do not feel distress. Very often, people with antisocial personality disorders do not experience distress. Bipolar disorder, in the manic stage, do not feel distress.
