Document Summary

How we are affected by this social experience. Social cognition: the study of the way we perceive and evaluate others. First impressions, expectations for others, attitudes, prejudice stereotypes. Social influence: the study of the ways in which people influence each other. Agreeing to someone"s direct request to behave in a certain way. Same as above but request comes from a figure of authority. Adjusting your behavior or your thinking to coincide with a group standard. Remote- teacher and learner were in different rooms, learner never talked. When started getting close to 450 volts, the learner started banging on the wall to see if teachers would keep going. Touch proximity- sitting side by side and teacher had to take the learners arm and put it on the shocker. No contact at all- didn"t meet at all and never saw them. Explanations for obedience- believed that it"s built in humans to obey people.
