We do it because we think its useful to talk about it and explain/predict things. We are trying to explain why people act consistently in different situations. Personality: refers to an individual"s unique constellatin of consistent behavioral traits. Personality gave good insights to behavior. not useful in picking a career or what kind of lifestyle they need. We moved away from focusing on grand theories, and we look at narrow personality traits rather than overall personality . Can help us predict who will fit what kind of job. Help people make decisions about future and help them understand what kinds of ways should managers interact with employees.
