Document Summary

N = the total number of subjects in a group nj = the number of subjects in one particular group among several groups, where j = 1 to k k = number of groups. Xbar = = the arithmetic mean of values within a limited group. The median = x-value where 50% of all the x-values fall above and 50% fall below. The mode = x - value with the highest frequency s 2 = ss/n = the variance of a limited and contained group, where there is no attempt to generalize to a larger group. 2 = the variance of the population = ss/n or (x - )2/n. In both of these last two values, n consists of all the members of the group or population. s = s2 = standard deviation of a limited group. 2 = ss/(n-1) = variance estimate of the population.
