PSYC 2110 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Cleft Lip And Cleft Palate, Mary Ainsworth, The Control Group
Document Summary
Two directions: cephalocaudal means that the head develops before the rest of the body. Example of this are sensitivity of the skin (infants have more sensitivity in their facial skin than in their feet), and muscular development. Ten principles: discontinuous growth means that the development in a system is not smooth or gradual. The two dramatic growth spurts are one from birth to the age 12 months and the other one during puberty. In language the second growth spurt occurs after higschool when entering the workforce or university: asynchronous growth means that growth in one system or domain will not be synchronized with growth in other systems or domains. At different times, growth spurts occur in different systems. Epigenesis in an example of hierarchic integration. (example: after baking a cake it is impossible to get back the ingredients separated in the original form. )
