Lecture 4: type 1 error know for exam. Genital region. not uncommon for kids this age to ask questions about sexuality, like where babies come from. Not uncommon to find kids this age engage in some masturbation behaviour. not necessarily orgasm but for pleasure. The conflict: the unconscious wish to be loved by the opposite sex parent, and be jealous of the same sex parent. The boys first object of love is the mom. incest by the boy feeling aroused sexually to the mom. the little boy begins to view his father as a competitor as a rival. Those desires make the boy fearful that the dad will retaliate and castrate the boy. Women are castrated males without penises and the boy afraid the father will do this to him. Repression - putting material out of consciousness and into unconsciousness.
