Document Summary
*seduction hypothesis/theory and binomial effect size on midterm! Stages of psychosexual development: phallic stage usually 4-5 years of age, fascination with genitals, conflict is attachment to opposite-sexed parent. Child desires to possess opposite-sex parent and kill same-sex parent. Freud called this oedipus complex (oedipus killed father and married mother): operates differently for males and females. Freud had more to say about males than females: as libido centres on genital zone, male child"s love for mom becomes sexual and incestuous. All occurring unconsciously: defensive identification becoming like the aggressor, or dad (similar to stockholm syndrome). Little boy reasons that cannot directly possess mother for fear of castration from father, but can possess her vicariously by becoming more like father. Thinks that she used to have one, and mom is responsible for loss: leads to decreased love for mom and increased love for dad.
