Existential-humanistic therapies: client- centered therapy, focuses on fostering self-acceptance and growth, help clients re-structure self-concept to correspond better with reality. Job of therapist is to provide unconditional positive regard. Like a good parent: goal is not to call patients, goal is to create environment that is safe and nurturing. Involves using paly materials as part of a therapeutic process depending on emotional, social, psychological and developmental needs. Influenced by psychodynamic rogers person-centered therapy: they tell stories, they have control over their stories and not their life, they would say the same sad story again and again until they change it to a happier ending. Incorporates aspects of behavioural science, dialectical philosophy and zen practice: process.
