The issues can range from wages, working hours, benefits, workplace health and safety, job training to many other work-related issues. Minimum wage, social security payments, an eight-hour day and weekends, overtime pay and the occupational health and safety act are all results of the organized labor movement. Under the canadian law, workers of all ages have the right to join a union. This ensures that one has the support they need from the union at any time they feel that fairness and respect is not being given at their workplace. A wide range of people, including visible minorities and immigrants are now joining unions. This includes security officers, doctors and nurses, poultry workers and graduate employees, home health care aides and wireless communications workers, auto parts workers and engineers.
